Golden Hats

Kurt Wismer is one of the few straw hatmakers in Switzerland. Photographer Corinne Kramer has visited this peculiar craftsman in his workshop.

Once upon a time straw was one of the biggest industry in the Swiss province of Freiamt. The little town Wohlen used to be named "Little Paris" because of it's production of the then fashionable straw hats and the rich "straw-barons".
